Head of School’s Blog – 23 June 2023

23 June 2023

Welcome to the newsletter for this week.

Firstly, well done to all of our Year 11 and Year 13 students across the three Federation sites, the exam season is now over. We look forward to results days in the summer holidays and celebrating their successes. Exam focus is now on Year 10 and Year 12 students as we encourage them to embrace their trial exams over the coming weeks. We have a Year 10 trial exams page on our website which gives you some important information and a helpful revision booklet. Year 10 students received an assembly yesterday covering expectations and logistics. It was explained that we make these as real an experience as possible so that the students are fully prepared for what to expect next summer. Please do contact your child’s tutor in the first instance if you have any concerns.

A letter will be sent to all parents/carers at the start of next week regarding the industrial action days that have been announced by the NEU for Wednesday 5 July and Friday 7 July.

Congratulations to our amazing students who performed at The Isle of Wight Festival over the weekend. They were a credit to themselves and to us.  We have many exciting activities planned in the coming weeks as we approach the end of term. Please stay up to date by following our social media platforms (links found at the bottom of the newsletter).

I hope you have a good weekend.

Head of School’s Blog – 16 June 2023

16 June 2023

Well done to all Year 11 students for their resilience with their exams in this warm weather. There are a handful of exams left at the start of next week. The exam pages of the website, as always, can be found here:  Exam logistics and Exams revision

Please remember that Monday 19 June is a Development Day so the site is closed to all students, apart from those taking exams.

If your child has an exam on Monday, please ensure that they leave enough time for travel via the one way system as we will be starting the exam at 9.00 am as usual. Also, please remember that there is no school transport, so students need to make their own way to and from school.

Next Tuesday, Year 10 Parents have been invited to a ‘Help your child revise’ evening ahead of the trail exams that start later this month. This will be a useful evening for you, so please do try to attend if possible.

Next week blazers and ties are once again optional though we do have a professional photographer in the school on Tuesday so it would be useful for ties and blazers to be brought into school.

If you are partaking in the Festival this weekend, I hope you enjoy yourself and stay safe and hydrated.

We look forward to welcoming all students back into school on Tuesday 20 June.

9 June 2023

Welcome to the first newsletter of the final half term for this academic year.

Thank you to all of our Year 7 parents/carers who attended Parents’ Evening yesterday. We were very pleased to see you and hope that you found the evening useful.

Year 11 exams have continued this week, and will also continue next week. Please ensure that your child is keeping their routines and importantly getting sleep too. A reminder of techniques and expectations of exam conditions can be found in these links – Exam logistics and Exams revision.

Please remember there is some disruption towards the end of next week due to the IW Festival. This letter was sent to all parents/carers at the end of last half term. Students in Year 11 will need to make their own way to school for their exams on Friday, 16 June and Monday, 19 June. Please ensure that enough time is given to allow for extra traffic congestion due to the one way system. The traffic information can be found on the IW Council website here.

Please remember to follow us on social media and keep an eye on our website for updates. Details can be found at the end of the newsletter.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and stay hydrated.

26 May 2023

Welcome to the final newsletter for this half term.

Firstly, well done to all of our Year 11 students who have been preparing for and sitting their exams. The first Monday back is the first English Language paper, and there are a couple of busy weeks to follow after that. Please remember to look at the support and guidance available on our website – Exam logistics and Exams revision. Please remember that there are also revision sessions running over half term to support students too.

The Isle of Wight Festival is fast approaching, so there will be some disruption during the w/c 12 June. A letter has been sent to parents/carers today.

Year 10 Business Studies students had an exciting event in the Theatre yesterday following work on Federation Innovation project. The students have been working really hard to create a ‘new’ breakfast product/idea that will take the market by storm. They spent many hours researching gaps in the market, and investigating competitors to create something that was new and unique. They set up their business stand and presented their product to a variety of judges throughout the day. I was very proud of the amount of work and thought that they had put into their products and pitches. We have some budding entrepreneurs in the making!

Year 7 parents/carers, please remember to book your appointments for Parents’ Evening on Thursday 8 June, which will be in person.

I hope you have a lovely half term and/or Bank Holiday weekend if you have any time off.

12 May 2023

Welcome to the newsletter for this week.

Year 11 exams started today for some, but the first whole cohort exam is next week. Please encourage and support your child to revise, eat and drink, relax and sleep. All four of these activities are vitally important. Breakfast will continue to be available throughout the exam season, and will be served from 8am. Letters about revision sessions over the half term break have been sent today. Website links are here – these will be shared each week of the exam season – Exam logistics and Exams revision.

An update regarding HISP has been sent to all parents/carers today. Please take a few minutes to read the letter.

We held our annual Year 7 Federation Games this week between Medina College and Carisbrooke College. Thank you to all of the students from both schools who took part and to all of the PE staff who organised and ran the day. The competitions themselves were closer than the overall result suggests, however, Medina College were the winners of all five sports and won the overall trophy. Well done to you all!

Please also keep up to date with the numerous news stories involving students across all year groups on our social media platforms.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Head of School’s Blog – 5 May 2023

5 May 2023

Welcome to the newsletter for this week. Thank you to all of the Year 8 parents/carers who came to our first in person Parents’ Evening for quite some time. It was great to welcome you into the school and for you to have a chance to get updated on your child’s progress. We will be sending a short survey to you about the evening. We would really appreciate you taking a few minutes to complete it, there will also be a question for any Year 8 parents/carers who were unable to attend.

Year 7 will have the opportunity shortly after the half term break, details will be sent before the end of term.

Year 11 exams are another week closer. Students had an assembly this week about exam logistics and expectations. It is vital that students do not do anything that will compromise the years of work they have done to get to this point. Please support us by reminding your child to make sure their phones are off and in their bags, they do not wear a watch, they have nothing in their pockets that shouldn’t be there, they are silent when expected and they answer all questions appropriately. We want them to ensure they get the grades they deserve. Please remember that we are all here to support them so please do contact their tutor in the first instance if there are concerns. We need to know before the exam, not after.

We look forward to welcoming students back after the Bank Holiday weekend.
