Attendance

Good attendance has a direct link to academic outcomes and results. Attending lessons is the best way to maximise the opportunities for success.

If a student is going to be absent from lessons, it is their responsibility to contact us by 9.00am on the day of absence via email or telephone:

  • attendance@theislandviform.org.uk
  • 01983 522886, Option 1 for Student Services

Unauthorised absence will result in parents/carers being contacted; continued absence will result in a meeting between the student, their parents/carers and a member of the Student Services team. A student’s place at VI Form is dependent on their overall attendance.

Planned absences such as dentist or doctor appointments should be scheduled outside of lessons whenever possible. Non-attendance to lessons due to driving lessons or other optional activities is not acceptable. A scheduled driving test (theory or practical), University visit or interview would be the only exceptions to this. Planned absence for a holiday is not supported and should be avoided.

If a student is ill during the day and intends to go home, they should sign out with Student Services before leaving the site.
