UP for Uni
Year 10 Residential at the University of Portsmouth

Last week, four Y10 Medina College students got the chance to experience what it is like to be a university student. Roxy, Caiden, Ruby and Asha spent two days and one night at Rees Hall, one of University of Portsmouth’s Halls of residence.

Over the two days, they got stuck into a variety of activities designed to give them a taste of university life. Our students challenged themselves by trying something new, including sports, societies and a range of subject workshops. They even got to grips with the social aspect of being a student when they mingled with students from other schools at a BBQ and disco!

To round off the residential, parents were invited to attend a Celebration Ceremony where each student got to wear a Mortarboard hat and officially receive a certificate for completing the residential. To close the ceremony, all participating students got to go outside to throw their Mortarboard hat into the air! A triumphant and proud moment for everyone involved.

Experiences such as this broaden the horizons and aspirations of our young people; getting them to really think about what they want to do in the future and believe that they can achieve their dreams. We are very grateful to the University of Portmouth for offering this exciting experience to our students.
