Head of School’s Blog – 10 May 2024

It has been a very short week this week but the weather has definitely started to look more like summer; let’s hope it lasts!

Year 11 have now started their exams so we wish them all the very best. Please don’t forget we offer free exam breakfasts for them in the morning on their exam days in the canteen.

Next week we have Year 7 Parents’ Evening on Thursday 16 May between 4-7pm. If you still haven’t made your appointments, please book them through Arbor.

Following on from the information I gave you last week about the alert from the National Crime Agency, I would like to draw your attention to some information that that is being provided by the Isle of Wight Safeguarding Children Partnership. Nationally, a significant theme of concern has been the rise in child sexual abuse. To quote from the work they have carried out, whether we are staff in school, parents or carers “we can no longer stay silent on this issue. We have to talk about it and act.” To help us all, they have produced some resources to help everyone improve on identifying victims, enacting protection and suggesting ways to support victims, survivors and their families. You can find below the resources that this partnership have created specifically aimed at parents and carers. Can I please ask you to take time to have a look over these.

As an aside note, can we please ask that if a student feels unwell during the school day that they attend their year office and allow the year office to facilitate calling home, rather than calling themselves from their mobile. This is a safeguarding issue and it is vital that we know when a child is unwell.

It leaves me finally to say congratulations to our Hot Chocolate winners who have achieved their ticket either for 100% attendance in the last week or are top achievement point winners for their year group. Well done to: Ethan, Michael, Lucy, Luke, Ronan, Aaleeya, Jasmine and Fergus.
