Head of School’s Blog – 10 May 2024

Welcome to this week’s blog.

Year 11 exams began this week and the students’ attitude and focus has been excellent. They had the first of the core exams with Biology today. I’m pleased to say that many have been making the most of the breakfast served before their morning exams. It is an opportunity for students to speak to their subject teachers with any concerns before their exams. We are running lunch time study sessions in S10 at 12.55 pm, please encourage your child to take advantage of this quiet space for study. This can be an anxious time for Year 11 students and I’d like to reassure them that the staff in school are here to support them. If they have any issues please speak to Mrs Smith or their tutor.

Carisbrooke College cleaned up at the two school equestrian team competitions this year. We were able to enter two teams in the dressage and the show jumping competitions and came away with 1st and 2nd in both! Well done to Poppy, Elizabeth, Holly and Matilda in year 7, Lucy, Millie and Evelyn in year 10 and Harriet, Maddie and Freya in year 11. We are super proud of them all!

On Thursday, I had the pleasure of joining 45 Year 9 students on a trip to London to watch a performance of Mousetrap. What a fantastic day! The students were full of positive feedback and it was a pleasure to join them.

Next Wednesday we have our Year 7 Parents’ Evening. If you haven’t already booked appointments, please do so via the Arbor App. Some teachers are already fully booked but you can still request contact from those teachers regarding your child’s progress by emailing donna.keogh@iwef.org.uk.

As you will have seen in the media recently, there has been an increase in the sexual exploitation of children via social media. As a school we want to support parents/carers in educating their children about the dangers this presents. You will find below some guidance and tools provided by the Isle of Wight Safeguarding Children Partnership to help you discuss the subject with your child. If you have any concerns at all, please do speak to a member of staff so that as a community we can protect our children from these modern day dangers.

Congratulations to our highest achievement point winners from last week of term – Michael – year 7, Leo – year 8, Joshua – year 9, Adam and Solomon – year 10 and Emma – year 11.
