The Island VI Form A Level History students visited Osborne House as part of their studies this week. The course requires a coursework investigation project, and this group of students are exploring the British Empire in the 19th and 20th century. Queen Victoria’s Isle of Wight residence, now run by English Heritage, welcomed the budding historians for a tour around the House followed by a walk around the gardens and grounds.
VI Form History teacher, Vix Lowthion, said “The students have shown great interest in our new topic this year which looks at the impact that the British Empire had on the world. It was a perfect opportunity to visit a site of national importance at Osborne House – right on our doorstep! Our students really appreciated seeing first-hand the artefacts sent to Queen Victoria from across the globe. Now it’s down to them to do the hard work and write up their investigation!”
