Medina College is situated on the banks of the river Medina, a ten minute walk from the centre of Newport.
The College inhabits a very attractive campus with buildings which are in excellent order and well set up to deliver a 21st Century curriculum.
There are extensive grounds and playing fields with the added benefit of the use of a professional leisure centre. The PE department makes excellent use of these facilities so students can participate in a wide range of activities from trampolining to parkour.
We are equipped with superb specialist arts facilities, including a fully functioning 420 seat community theatre, a ‘black box’ drama studio, a specialist dance studio and a professional recording studio. In addition, we have numerous Apple Mac suites for music technology, graphics, art and film studies.
Medina College continues its partnership with Solo and will once again play host to the Isle of Wight Festival. This provides a wide range of ‘money can’t buy’ opportunities and experiences for our students such as set building, artist liaison duties and even performances for festival goers.
We are continuing to invest in the latest technologies to support students’ learning. All classrooms are fitted with smart interactive screens and there is a full wireless network throughout the College. Our science department has nine laboratories set up to deliver a highly practical and innovative curriculum.
Students come to Medina from across the Island and we have close links with our feeder schools. We run a number of initiatives throughout the year to directly engage primary school children with subjects such as arts, sciences and technology; in particular we work with Year 5 and 6 children to prepare them for the transition to secondary school. One of our priorities is to strengthen the curricular, pastoral and extra-curricular links with our local primaries.
We encourage parents and carers to be involved in every aspect of their child’s education at Medina. This partnership helps us achieve the highest all round standards for your children and we will do all we can to enthuse, motivate and support them during their time with us. We have an active Parent Voice group and encourage parents and carers to get involved.
