Macie’s Christmas mission to spread cheer to the elderly

Year 10 student, Macie, has taken it upon herself to spread some Christmas cheer to elderly members of our community on the Island who may be lonely during the festive season.

Christmas can be a difficult time for for those in care homes or in the community with no family. This year, the coronavirus pandemic has made life particularly difficult with many shielding due to being more vulnerable. Macie had a vision to put smiles on the faces of our elderly community and set upon her mission to gather gifts and cards to spread some Christmas cheer.

Macie has received donations from Morrison’s, as well as from friends and family, and has even used her own money from her paper round to purchase gifts, wrapping paper and cards. She has 60 wrapped so far and 40 to go! These will all be gifted to members of local care homes, care providers in the community, Pan Together and elderly patients who may have to spend Christmas in hospital.

Macie’s mission has inspired other students to get involved and help. It is so wonderful to see how caring our young people are and that they understand how a small gift can have a huge impact on someone’s life this Christmas.

Well done Macie! You are a wonderful ambassador for our school and we are extremely proud of your efforts!
