2nd October 2020

Dear students, parents and carers,

The weeks seem to fly by. I can’t believe I am writing the newsletter already – the end of another week. Having now spent the last two weeks in school and chatted to staff and students, we are going to make some alterations to where students spend their social times. Year 7 are going to move to the Astro, year 9 to the basketball pitch and Year 11 into the student entrance. We are also looking at moving where Year 9 meet at the beginning of the day; they are going to go to the school entrance area so that they are able to access the building more quickly. These changes will come into effect on Monday morning.

The best thing we can do for our students in these challenging times of constant change and uncertainty, is to keep the things we can control as a constant in their lives. That is why all the routines and rules regarding uniform, equipment and behaviour are being adhered to. I appreciate your support in matters relating to standards of appearance, equipment and behaviour.

Well done to the top reward point achievers for the last two weeks: Year 7 Gabe King; Year 8 Mia George; Year 9 Rachael Willoughby; Year 10 Oskar Walker and Year 11 Charlotte Hall.

I received some lovely feedback from Mrs Edwards, our Examination Officer, about our Year 7 students this week:

“Next time Year 7 have an assembly, can I ask that you congratulate them on their behaviour during the CATs tests. They behaved impeccably, listened to instructions and were respectful of those around them. They should be very proud of their conduct and I look forward to seeing them again over the next couple of weeks when they do their reading tests.”

We are really disappointed that this year we are unable to welcome families into our school for our traditional Open Evening event. We know there is no substitute for seeing the school for yourself and chatting to our students and staff. To help families make an informed choice about their secondary school application, we have put together a Virtual Open Evening Video, which will be going live next Monday. I am so proud of our Year 7 students who have talked about their experiences so far.

Have a lovely weekend.
